Collector Akın Gökay’s ‘World’s largest chess collection’, which has been collected from 103 countries in 6 continents since 1975 and entered the Guinness Book of Records, is being exhibited within the scope of the 25th International Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival.

The 25th International Istanbul Buyukcekmece Culture and Art Festival, organised in cooperation with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Buyukcekmece Municipality with the participation of 1200 art ambassadors from 75 countries, hosts many international art events and includes many special exhibitions.The exhibition attracted great interest

There was great interest in the chess exhibition opened in Büyükçekmece Kültürpark Museum. Büyükçekmece Mayor Dr. Hasan Akgün, Çatalca Mayor Erhan Güzel, Güran Gökyay, son of collector Akın Gökyay, opened the exhibition together with interesting chess sets. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Güran Gökyay informed the participants about his father’s chess collection adventure of more than 40 years. After the speeches, the exhibition, which includes chess sets collected from all over the world, was visited.”We have taken a step towards making especially children love chess”
Duygu Nur Sapaz, Director of the Gökay Foundation Chess Museum, gave the following information about the chess collection exhibited at the International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival: ‘We are participating in this festival for the first time. By introducing a small part of our chess set to the people here, maybe we have taken a step towards making people, especially children, love chess. I liked the festival, it is a very nice festival. Such festivals should be organised nationally and internationally to contribute to culture and arts. Therefore, we would like to thank everyone who contributed.‘’

The very special chess sets in the museum, which includes 540 special chess sets collected by businessman Akın Gökyay, who has the ‘World’s Largest Chess Collection’ for 40 years, will be exhibited at Büyükçekmece Kültürpark Museum until 3 August.
